The best nightlife in Phoenix.

Where the Valley goes out, district by district - from Old Town Scottsdale's bar crawl to downtown's music venues and the resort lounges - and how to get home at 2am.

Updated October 2026 · 3 min read

Phoenix nightlife is spread across the Valley rather than packed into one strip, and each district has its own crowd. Old Town Scottsdale is the big Friday night out. Downtown Phoenix is music venues, cocktail bars and game nights. Tempe is the college scene. And in a city where it is still 90 degrees at 10pm in summer, a lot of the best evenings happen on patios and rooftops.

A practical note before you go: Arizona bars can serve until 2am, and Arizona's DUI laws are among the strictest in the country, with jail time possible even on a first offense. Plan the ride home before the first round.

The districts

Old Town Scottsdale

Around Scottsdale Road and Camelback RoadAbout 20 min from downtown Phoenix

The Valley's busiest night out: a few walkable blocks of clubs, cocktail lounges, sports bars, country bars and late-night food, packed from Thursday to Saturday. It is the default for bachelorette parties, birthdays and visiting groups, and it is easy to move between venues on foot once you are there.

Local tip: Around last call, the curbs in Old Town are crowded and rideshare prices jump. A chauffeur waiting at a set pickup point is the calm way out.

Downtown Phoenix and Roosevelt Row

Downtown PhoenixDowntown

Downtown nights revolve around the arenas, the theaters and a strong cocktail-bar scene, including several speakeasy-style rooms. Roosevelt Row adds galleries, murals and relaxed bars, and it is at its busiest on First Friday, the monthly evening art walk.

Mill Avenue, Tempe

Next to ASUAbout 15 min

Tempe's main street is lined with bars, pubs and late-night food, and it skews young when the university is in session. It gets especially lively around Arizona State game days.

Uptown and the Central Avenue corridor

Central PhoenixAbout 10 min

Around Central Avenue and Camelback Road, a cluster of neighborhood bars, wine bars and patios serves a slightly older, local crowd - good for drinks and a long dinner rather than a big night.

The Melrose District

7th Avenue, west of CentralAbout 10 min

A stretch of 7th Avenue known for vintage shops by day and some of Phoenix's best-loved LGBTQ+ bars and clubs by night.

Downtown Gilbert

Gilbert, southeast ValleyAbout 30 min

Gilbert's Heritage District has turned into one of the Valley's favorite dining and drinking streets, with patios, breweries and a water tower that gives the area its landmark. Good for groups who live or stay in the East Valley.

Live music and shows

Downtown music venues

Downtown PhoenixDowntown

Downtown has the Valley's best concentration of live music, from intimate rooms like the Crescent Ballroom to larger halls such as The Van Buren, with touring acts most nights of the week. The biggest tours play Footprint Center.

Celebrity Theatre

East of downtown PhoenixAbout 10 min

A long-running concert hall with a round, revolving stage, so there is no truly bad seat. It books comedians, legacy acts and R&B and soul shows.

Westgate Entertainment District

Glendale, West ValleyAbout 25 min

Restaurants, bars and fountains around the stadium and arena where the Cardinals play and major events land. On game and concert nights it is the West Valley's center of gravity.

Comedy

Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, ScottsdaleVaries

The Valley has several dedicated comedy clubs, and national headliners pass through often, especially in winter. A late show and a nightcap is an easy, reliable night out.

Slower nights and special ones

Resort lounges and rooftops

Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, downtownVaries

For a quieter night, the Valley's resort bars and hotel rooftops do sunset cocktails very well, many with fire pits and views of Camelback or the city lights. Dress codes lean smart casual.

Casino resorts

Around the edge of the Valley20 to 40 min

Several tribal casino resorts sit within half an hour of central Phoenix - including Talking Stick Resort and Casino Arizona near Scottsdale, Wild Horse Pass south of the city and Desert Diamond in the West Valley - each with restaurants, bars and live entertainment.

Evening art walks

Roosevelt Row and Old Town ScottsdaleMonthly and weekly

First Friday on Roosevelt Row and the Scottsdale ArtWalk on Thursday evenings in Old Town both turn into easy, sociable nights: wander the galleries, then stay for dinner and drinks.

Desert evenings

Desert Botanical Garden, South MountainSeasonal

Some of the best nights here are outdoors: seasonal evening events at the Desert Botanical Garden, or the city lights from Dobbins Lookout on South Mountain before dinner.

Getting home safely

Last call in Arizona is 2am, and that is exactly when rideshare surge pricing peaks and the curbs in Old Town and on Mill Avenue get chaotic. Arizona also treats impaired driving severely - a first DUI can bring jail time, and penalties climb steeply at higher blood-alcohol levels.

For groups, the simplest answer is to keep one vehicle for the whole night. With an hourly booking, your chauffeur drops you at the first stop, waits or moves the car between venues, and gets everyone home together. Agree a pickup point in advance - a side street a block away from the busiest corner is usually fastest.

Getting there

One car for the whole night.

Executive SUVs for small groups, Sprinter vans for up to 14 and party buses for the whole crew. Book by the hour, set the stops, and let the chauffeur handle the curb.
